Resume

Manfred Schrewe, born 1978 in Paderborn (Germany), is a PostDoc in the research group Applied Biocatalysis.

After training as a biological technical assistant at the vocational college of the Hochsauerlandkreis in Olsberg he studied Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Bielefeld (2001-2006). In his diploma thesis at the Chair of Fermentation Engineering of Prof. E. Flaschel he worked on the improvement of recombinant protein production by means of process and genetic engineering. During his internship at the Department of Bioprocess Technology of Prof. S.O. Enfors at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, he assisted in the development of a fingerprint method to characterize bacteria using SPR.

From March 2007 till June 2013, Manfred carried out his PhD thesis at the Laboratory of Chemical Biotechnology under supervision of Prof. A. Schmid and Dr. B. Bühler. In his research, he focused on whole-cell biocatalysis for the oxyfunctionalization of hydrocarbons. His thesis is entitled "Synthetic pathway and process engineering for terminal oxy- and aminofunctionalization via multistep biocatalysis in living microbial cells".

Next to the ongoing research on the production of functionalized hydrocarbons with whole cells, in his PostDoc project Manfred focuses on hydrogenase based catalysis for in vivo evolution of hydrogen and the utilization of H2 for cofactor regeneration, respectively.
